Chinese New Year Dinner

On 24th Feb Sat, we had a CNY steamboat dinner at Gene and Liesbet's house. After that, it was a time of computer games and an extremely corrupted game of Monopoly, which resulted in us staying up till 3 plus am in the morning... (who says we are retired youths??) And noticably, a few of us were missing from church the very next day... hee...
Here are some of the day's highlights:

Making a difference

This year marks a new beginning in the way I relate to my parents. It all started from an idea that was birthed after I heard Huiyin mentioned that she brought her grandma and mother to buy new year clothes.

I purposed in my heart to get something for my dad this new year since its the pig year and he is a 'pig' (meaning born in the year of a pig). So I went to Suntec and ordered a 'golden pig' from Singapore Mint.

Last weekend, my dad came home and it was also time for me to collect the 'golden pig'. Plus my mum demanded that we go out and eat (cos its her birthday in a few days time: a yearly ritual). So I made my stand that we should eat at Suntec. Well, we had a good lunch. Tried out korean food and my mum loves it. (Good! Now we can have a different variety of food when we go out and eat in future.)

I collected the 'golden pig' and just at that moment, my parents came up the escalator and they saw it. So I just told my dad that it was for him. (At the back of my mind, I am thinking how I can prevent my mum from being jealous cos this is the first time I get something for my parents, other than treating dinner + that 'pig' isn't cheap!)

Well, somehow, my dad struck lottery that day. It made his day though I wonder if the SA TAN tried to hook my dad to believing that pig idol brought him luck.

To cut the long story short. I also told my mum that I want to get her new year clothes. And this morning, I paid for her skirt that she wanted to get.

Dear friends, I am starting to believe that something good will come out from my obedience to show my love to my parents in this manner and I pray that I will continue to be a good testimony for them starting from this year. God willing, He will save them.

Let's believe that God will deliver our parents.

Your testimonies about your family really encourages. Let's trust God together.

My parents n I

Today, my mum called me and asked me if I was free to go home for dinner and bird's nest. :) She also told me that my dad was not well, with diarrhoea and fever after he came back from Vietnam. When I went back, I helped my dad take his temperature and went with him to the doctor. He didn't want my mum to come along to the doctor. I sensed that he missed me. I missed him too. We did not talk much along the way. I asked him if he ate something wrong in Vietnam. I guess so but he probably did not dare to own up at home, for fear that my mum would nag. He was quite receptive to my suggestions to have a little something to eat etc. Our relationship is one without much words. I pray that the Lord will take it further. It was my prayer this year to have more time with my family and also for the Lord to show my dad who He is. I thank God for this time I had with my dad today. I also thank God for using my presence to ease the anxiety in my mum when my dad is unwell.
